Whether you’re a seasoned gearhead with electronics experience or you’ve never built a circuit in your life, this all day workshop will teach you the basics of audio preamp design and give you the chance to build your very own 500 series preamp module!

Participants will select a Hairball Elements component kit of their choice, and receive step by step guidance through the assembly process. Learning essential electronics knowledge and troubleshooting basics will be a cornerstone of this workshop. Everyone is guaranteed a fully functional, great sounding mic pre!

Ultra transparent tone similar to Grace Designs, Millenia, or John Hardy M1 preamps. The Gold pre is great on acoustic instruments and vocals.
Comparable to a Neve 1073, the Copper pre delivers a rich, balanced sound. suitable for capturing the detail of any instrument.
The Bronze pre adds thick coloration to the low mids of your tone. Based on the distortion characteristics of the LA3, this preamp is ready to rock!

You are welcome to bring your own soldering kit if you have one. Soldering irons for purchase and optional component upgrades available for additional fees. Participants are guaranteed a fully functioning elements series mic pre. Any soldering activity is not recommended for women who are pregnant or people with health conditions. AVL Professional & Hairball Audio are not responsible for injuries during the workshop. Lead solder is involved in this workshop, participation is at your own risk.
